Uptown Plaza Celebrating 70 Years

This event is hosted by Uptown Plaza

Join Uptown Plaza on Saturday, September 27, from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM as we celebrate seven decades of Uptown Plaza with a lively evening full of music, memories, and mid-century magic. This celebration welcomes residents and visitors alike to step back in time and celebrate seven decades of neighborhood connection, culture, and commerce in the heart of Uptown Phoenix, honoring the legacy of Uptown while looking ahead to the future.

Event Highlights Include:

The first 250 guests to check in at the 70th Anniversary Welcome Booth will receive a 70th Anniversary pin, unlocking “1955 pricing” specials across the Plaza, including

- Vintage-Inspired Deals from Shake Shack, Dynamite Beer Co, and Free scoops from Salt & Straw (ahead of their Fall 2025 opening), while supplies last
- Live Rockabilly Music by local band The Joeys
- Community Yoga
 in the Courtyard at 5:00 PM, led by Sweatshop on Central

Join us for a preservation happy hour!

Whether you are an active preservationist, looking to get involved, or just want to grab a drink with us, this event is for you.

Welcome to the Preserve PHX quarterly happy hour: Preservation on the Rocks. With beer in hand, let’s dive into what historic preservation means to us and how we can better support preservation efforts in our city and communities. This is a casual happy hour with no formal agenda, so come as you are, ask questions, and let’s preserve Phoenix together.

We are always looking for ways to support local businesses in historic places which is why we are excited to host this gathering in historic Sunnyslope!

Historic Preservation Commission Meeting

The Historic Preservation Commission will meet Monday, July 14, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. inside the Phoenix City Council Chambers, 200 West Jefferson Street, Phoenix, Arizona.

The City of Phoenix’s Historic Preservation Commission meets once a month and is open to the public. We encourage the community to join us at the meeting to speak or submit comments on preservation issues.

This month, the Wing’s Restaurant Building is on the agenda (Item #5) as a demolition permit has been filed to destroy the building to make way for a modular coffee shop. We are asking our community to speak up and voice their opposition to its demolition. Register to speak or send your public comment to help us save this property!

Preserve PHX sends the city letters on our stance and recommendations on specific agenda items. You are welcome to read our letter regarding the Wing’s Restaurant property HERE.

OPTIONS TO ACCESS THE MEETING

  • Participate in-person at the City Council Chambers, 200 West Jefferson Street, Phoenix, Arizona. Speaker and comment cards will be available at the meeting site.

Historic Preservation Commission Meeting - Virtual Only

THIS MEETING IS VIRTUAL ONLY

The City of Phoenix’s Historic Preservation Commission meets once a month and is open to the public. We encourage the community to join us at the meeting to speak or submit comments on preservation issues.

This month, two properties are on the agenda to gather information and possibly initiate Historic Preservation (HP) Overlay:

  • Item 4: Hudson Farmstead (9680 S 59th Avenue)

  • Item 5: Barnes Dairy Farm (6159 W Dobbins Road)

    Both properties are on a 30-day demolition hold as the owners request to demolish these eligible properties. Possible action can be taken by the commission to initiate HP Overlay Zoning. The community can request to speak in support of historic overlay zoning and oppose the demolition.

AZ Preservation Conference

The 2025 Preserve AZ Conference boasts two full days of programming geared to professionals, with continuing education credits when available, in the fields of historic preservation, archaeology, cultural resources management, architecture, and planning. The event is tailored for members of the public who are involved in historic preservation and archaeology through volunteer activities and non-profit or state and local board and commission membership. Programming is designed to attract elected leadership and staff of Arizona’s 22 Native American tribes, who have a special relationship to Arizona’s historic resources.

The two days of general programming are supplemented by tours, activities, and pre-conference workshops.
