Al Beadle’s White Gates

After a long fight to save White Gates home, the property was demolished in November 2025. Our hearts are heavy with this loss of Phoenix history, but a new chapter for the home’s salvaged materials is now found at the Shemer Arts Center.

The Future of White Gates

Earlier this year, the Shemer Art Center was selected to receive iconic materials from one of the most celebrated mid-century modern homes in the state—the legendary “White Gates” residence on Camelback Mountain, designed in the 1950s by the visionary architect Al Beadle.

This is an incredible opportunity to give a new life to the salvaged pieces of the historic home and ensure that Beadle’s legacy in Phoenix lives on.

Preservationist, community members, and organizations are invited to be a part of this legacy through donations. Learn more about the campaign and donate today!

About White Gates

The White Gates home was regarded not only as one of Beadle's most iconic designs but also his personal residence. Built in 1956, this “Beadle Box” appears to float on the desert floor and the hand built white screen wall made of a grid of ellipses contrast with the surrounding environment.

More information on this home and other residential and commercial properties can be found on the Beadle Archive hosted by Alison King’s Modern Phoenix.
